When the committee members and users of Tiddington Community Centre decided they could no longer put up with the poor acoustic in their building, they contacted acoustic specialists Sound Reduction Systems Ltd (SRS) for advice.
After supplying the SRS Technical department with some basic information regarding the hall, such as room dimensions and surface materials, along with a couple of photographs, SRS were able to predict the performance of the hall using their acoustic modelling software and offer an accurate proposal for the remedial works. After speaking further with committee member Stewart Band about their particular activities and problems, the original specification was tweaked to offer the optimum solution, taking into account both affordability and practicality.
Before ordering, the committee was keen to view an existing Sonata installation, to see for their selves how the panels looked and performed. SRS were able to put them in touch with a Sonata customer in their area, who was happy to show them around their hall. After satisfying themselves as to the look and performance of the product, they placed their order.
SRS supplied and fitted 30 square meters of Sonata Vario absorbers to the ceiling of the community centre. Sonata Vario absorbers are manufactured from high performance acoustic foam, wrapped in a decorative fabric. They have a mounting frame in the back of the panel so that that can be suspended or bracket mounted on walls, creating the image of a floating panel. With many colours to choose from, they provide an effective and aesthetic solution to echo and reverberation problems.
SRS also installed two Sonata Memo Boards in the hall. The Memo products are Class A absorbers that also function as pinnable noticeboards. This allows people to maximise their wall space without compromising on acoustic performance.
After the installation, Stewart Band of Tiddington Community Centre committee commented:
“We are very pleased with the installation in the hall - we trialled a video in our film club with a particularly poor sound definition and hey presto we could hear it all!”
