Glenridding Village Hall Hall is situated in stunning surroundings at the southern end of Ullswater in the Lake District. The Hall is at the heart of the local community and is used for everything from arts and craft fairs and wedding receptions to conferences, theatre productions and fashion shows, to name a few examples.
The Hall has recently invested in an exciting programme of refurbishments to further improve their facilities. In addition to a new kitchen and toilets, the floor has been revarnished, a mobile stage has been purchased, and a new storeroom has been added. However, the hall did have one remaining issue. The hard surfaces within the building and lack of soft furnishings meant that the acoustics in the room itself were poor. The excessive reverberation and echo was causing issues with speech intelligibility and build-up of noise within the space, affecting many of the activities taking place.
The Trustees at Glenridding Village Hall contacted room acoustics specialists Sound Reduction Systems (SRS) to see if they could help design a solution for them. SRS have decades of experience in treating noisy village halls, school halls and gymnasiums, to name but a few, and were delighted to visit site to offer their help.
Following the site visit and survey, SRS were able to use software to model the room to find out how it was performing. It was clear with a pre-treatment reverberation time of over 3 seconds that an acoustic treatment was required. SRS specified 43.2 square meters of their suspended Sonata Vario absorbers spaced neatly and evenly on the ceiling of the room. Following completion of their extension and re-decoration, the Glenridding Trustees contacted SRS to organise the installation of the panels.
