When the staff and pupils at Christ The King RC Primary School in Manchester, decided that the noise levels and reverberation in the large, vaulted school sports hall had to be dealt with, they contacted acoustic experts Sound reduction Systems (SRS) for their advice. Under the terms of their ‘Acoustics For Schools’ initiative, SRS offer all UK schools free advice, reports and quotes to treat their acoustic problems.
In the first instance, SRS Director Alex Docherty visited site to measure up the hall and discuss possible treatments, layouts and colour schemes with the school. Alex then provided the school with a full report including graphs of ‘before’ and ‘after’ treatment performance, along with costs for the treatment.
The specified solution consisted of 40m2 of Sonata Vario acoustic absorbers suspended from the ceiling and 13m2 of the bonded Sonata Aurio panels on the walls. Both the Sonata Vario & Sonata Aurio panels comprise a high performance, Class O fire rated, acoustic foam wrapped in decorative fabric and are available in a variety of sizes and colours. The Sonata Vario panels are suspended from the ceiling or walls on clips and brackets and can be easily removed and replaced for cleaning, decoration or maintenance ensuring a high performance, practical solution to sound absorption issues in schools. The Sonata Aurio is a lower cost option that is permanently bonded in place.
SRS sent their specialist fitter to site during half term to cause the minimum of disruption to the school, and the job was completed in a day. After the installation, a school spokesman commented:
“It makes an enormous difference; everyone has said how much better it is. The fitters were great and worked really hard.”
